As the current school year comes to an end, I’ve been working on finalizing our homeschool plans for 2025-2026. Choosing a curriculum is always both exciting and a little overwhelming. But after lots of coffee, research, and prayer, I’m excited to share our homeschool curriculum choices for the fall!
Our Homeschool Goals This Year
Before diving into the resources, here are a few goals I kept in mind while planning:
- Encourage more independent learning (especially for my older kids)
- Cultivate curiosity and a love of learning
- Keep things simple but meaningful
- Build in time for nature, creativity, and rest
Bible and Morning Time
We begin each day with a simple morning time routine that includes:
- Prayer & Devotion: We will continue reading through the I Am Devotional by Diane Stortz.
- Scripture Memorization: Each month I will choose a Bible verse for us to memorize as a family.
- Scripture Copywork: We will be working through the book of Psalms, copying a verse a day.
- Bible Study: We will be finishing Answers Bible Curriculum Year 1. Currently, we have a few lessons left. Once completed, we will begin Year 2. This is part of our weekly rotation, only to be used 2x a week.
- Character Studies and Theology Terms: We will be focusing on the fruit of the Spirit through real life application and memorizing theological terms.
- Read-Alouds: I’ve selected a mix of seasonal picture books and monthly chapter books to read together.
Language Arts
Fourth Grade
- Phonics and Reading: Finish The Good and Beautiful’s Language Arts level 3 and then continue into level 4
- Grammer and Writing: Fix It Grammer Level 1 and journaling prompts for creative writing
- Spelling: Evan Moor level 4
- Handwriting: A Reason For level D
- Literature: Assigned monthly reading
Second Grade
- Phonics and Reading: Finish The Good and Beautiful’s Language Arts level 1 and then continue into level 2
- Writing: Journal prompts for creative writing
- Spelling: Evan Moor Level 2
- Handwriting: A Reason For Level B
Kindergarten
- Phonics and Reading: The Good and Beautiful’s Language Arts Course Set Level K
- Narration and Writing: Journal prompts for creative in conjunction with narration.
- Handwriting: A Reason For Level K
Math
Fourth Grade
Finish Math With Confidence Level 3 and then continue into Level 4
Second Grade
Finish Math With Confidence Level 1 and then continue into Level 2
Kindergarten
Math With Confidence Level K
Science
We’re doing a family-style science using Apologia’s Astronomy Course Set again this year. We’ll supplement with some library books, nature journaling, and a few simple experiments.
History
We’re continuing with Notgrass Our Star Spangled Story. It’s engaging and works well across multiple ages. We read together, then follow up with a video on YouTube, an activity page from the student book and a chapter from the assigned read aloud.
Geography
This year, we decided to add Notgrass Our Great Big World. Being our first time using this curriculum, we are extremely excited to start learning about the different countries in our world.
Enrichment + Extra Curriculur
- Art: Art for Kids Hub on YouTube. We’ve been using this channel for drawing lessons this currently school year and have very much enjoyed it. We might also dive into a few artist studies this year.
- Music: We are hoping to begin lessons on piano and guitar. We already own a guitar and will be using YouTube for free lessons. We are actively in search of a keyboard piano to start free YouTube lessons as well.
- PE: Nature walks, bike rides, and weekly co-op park days
- Spanish: Fabulingua, YouTube learning videos and daily Spanish speaking at home
- ASL: SignSchool, online classes through OKC School for the Deaf, and YouTube learning videos.
Final Thoughts
One of the blessings of homeschooling is the flexibility to adjust as we go. While these are our current choices, I always hold them loosely, ready to pivot if something isn’t working. My hope is that this fall brings a steady rhythm, joyful learning, and space to grow together as a family.
